Black History Month 2024: Bay Area events, performances and more ways to celebrate

Anne Schrager, San Francisco Chronicle, January 26, 2024

February is the official time to celebrate the legacy of African culture in America, and with events commemorating the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. starting in mid-January, as the San Francisco Public Library aptly notes, it’s “More Than a Month.”  This year’s official theme for Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts,” and thus the deep well of creative arts contributions from African Americans like BroadwaySF's current production of “The Wiz,” will take center stage.
