In 2017, the gallery opened Jenkins Johnson Projects in Brooklyn. Profiled in The New York Times, Jenkins Johnson Projects is a hub for critically acclaimed, emerging curators and artists of color. The mission of the project space, led by director Karyn Behnke, is to enhance the cultural environment of its community, encourage collaboration, and provide a space for active dialogues. The space welcomes a rotation of guest curators who present exhibitions of contemporary artists working across disciplines. Past curators include Derrick Adams, Larry Ossei-Mensah, Zanele Muholi, Antwaun Sargent, Hank Willis Thomas and Dexter Wimberly.
Jenkins Johnson Galleries are committed to working with museums, private institutions, art collectors and other dealers to progress the careers of our artists. The galleries exhibit the work of established 20th century masters including Gordon Parks, Mary Lovelace O'Neal, Ming Smith, and Aubrey Williams and worked on projects with the Roy DeCarava Archives. We also show the work of critically recognized, mid-career and emerging artists including Wesaam Al-Badry, Ben Aronson, Lalla Essaydi, Scott Fraser, Julia Fullerton-Batten, Hendrik Kerstens, Turiya Magadlela, Aida Muluneh, Lola Flash, Blessing Ngobeni, Nnenna Okore, Carlos Javier Ortiz, and Enrico Riley.
Gallery artists have artworks in institutions including The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Our artists have participated in the Venice Biennale, Prospect, and other invitationals.
