“The central figure stands tall, rooted in her power in a barren and primeval landscape that seems to exist outside of time. The work deals with the innate magic and power of women, which is in simpatico with the natural world. Released from oppression, the figure is free to use her magic with grace.” - Poulomi Basu on "The Bird of Time."

Provenance

Basu’s series ‘Sisters of the Moon’ views the future of feminism as a necessary intersectional space, wherein the personal and political collide. A holistic future where climate and reproductive justice and a girl’s education are fundamentally connected. The artworks speculate on the future by embracing hybrid docu-fiction and recognizing radical transformation as being essential to feminist living and survival, and a necessity to prepare mentally, physically and spiritually for continued struggle. This series highlights the work the artist made and collaborating with major organizations as a tactic to amplify the message and make infrastructural changes at the ground level.
