Andre D. Wagner

Biography
Andre Wagner (b. 1986, Omaha Nebraska) is a contemporary photographer and artist based in Brooklyn, New York. He explores and chronicles the poetic and lyrical nuances of daily life and the human condition, using the city—particularly his own neighborhood and community—as his subjects. Hailing from Omaha, Wagner relocated to New York in 2011, initially pursuing a master's degree in social work before realizing his true passion for photography. His artistic journey aligns with the rich tradition of street photography, capturing the essence of the American social landscape through themes of race, class, and cultural identity. Wagner's commitment to his craft also extends to the meticulous process of developing his own black-and-white negatives and producing silver gelatin prints in his personal darkroom.
 
A Gordon Parks Foundation Fellow of 2022, Wagner's photographs have been featured in esteemed publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Vogue, among others. He apart of various pristine public collections including The Gordon Parks Foundation, The Studio Museum of Harlem, and Buena Vista University. Notably, he contributed to the acclaimed film "Queen & Slim," photographing the iconic key art and the campaigns leading images. In 2024, Wagner photographed Beyoncé and Ms. Tina for the cover of the April edition of Essence Magazine, as well as Jerrod Carmichael and John Boyega for Esquire. Recently, he collaborated with fashion editor Milton Dixon III on the Fall/Winter portfolio for ESSX New York. With over a decade dedicated to documenting New York City's streets, Wagner’s work stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of New York, while continuing the legacy of street photography's exploration of societal dynamics and identities.
