Wesaam Al-Badry receives Dorothea Lange Fellowship

December 19, 2018

This year the campus wide committee members selected Jschool first year student Wesaam Al-Badry for the $4,000 Dorothea Lange fellowship, for a project on a Native American family, telling their story of human resistance, reliance and family love.  The award was created by Lange's husband, former U.C Berkeley Professor Paul Taylor, and was created in memory of one of the greatest documentary photographers of the 20th-century. It encourages the use of photography in the scholarly work of any discipline at U.C. Berkeley. The fellowship is awarded to a graduate student, or faculty member campus wide. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding work in documentary photography and a creative plan for future work.
